We start over with Slack since the last install was randomly freezing up in X. We try to go with a 2.6 kernel to see if this fixes things. Does it? Well now, you just have to listen in to find out.
Oh, and we also revise the tentative lineup for the next eight months and distros:
- Fedora Core
- SimplyMepis
- Gentoo
- Mint
- Debian
- pcbsd
- Freespire
- Quantian

We continue our exploration of Slackware by changing runlevels to boot into a graphical display manager. We also learn how to add a user from the command line. Additionally, we make some time for listener feedback this week.

The start of our fourth month of weekly shows finds us visiting the oldest living Linux distribution: Slackware. This episode focuses on the intial install, which goes well. During the package install component we use some time to cover further issues with our Linux Toy: iAudio U3.

Our fourth, and therefore, final episode on Ubuntu. All we have left to do is check if we can get hibernation or sleep to work under Dapper Drake. To our very pleasant surprise all this takes is to actually see if it works - and it does out of the box.
Based on our highly scientific scoring system Ubuntu is awarded 4 out of a potential 5 penguins - which puts it tied for the lead with Suse. Definitely leaves us wanting to explore this distro more, but time to move on to our fourth distribution starting with the next episode. And, this will be the one and only Slackware. Sure to be an experience, so please tune in next week.

Week three with Ubuntu and some new features to the show. Before we continue on with the exploration of Ubunutu we do some listener feedback and talk about the future of the show. We also add a segment on linux toys, where we review the iAudio U3 music player. Tasty.
The main segment has us trying to get Vim 7.0 out of the main repositories for Ubuntu. Doesn’t quite work so we end up having to compile, which works just fine.
We run out of time before we get around to seeing if we can get sleep to work on the lappie. One more week to go on Ubuntu so hopefully it will happen next week.
Oh, and we also talk about the tentative lineup for the next nine months and distros:
- Slackware
- SimplyMepis
- Gentoo
- Centos
- Debian
- pcbsd
- Freespire
- Quantian
- Fedora core
If your favorite isn’t on the list, or if you want to reorder things, just send us some feedback.
