Episode 40 Slackware 12 part 1
This episode I install Slackware 12 on an Acer laptop. I get the main system installed along with kde, and I install the synaptics touchpad driver. I’m anticipating investigating the different ways to install software on Slackware, especially the new Slackbuild website. Ben had to take this week off. He will follow up his Sabayon installation either next week of the week after.

If you can’t find a graphical tool to tell screen resolution , just open a
xterm and type xvidtune -show

I’m listening to a few back episodes as I just found this podcast. You may mention this in parts 2 or 3 but I don’t think an initrd is required using the default slackware huge smp kernel for reiserfs because it is built in directly to the kernel. I just checked the /boot/config file and both ext3 and reiserfs are built in. However, if the generic modules have them both built as modules. Which means you need to either rebuild the kernel with your root file system built in or make an initrd.
Anyway, I just thought I’d mention it.
