Episode 46 Gentoo part 1

Posted in Gentoo at 5:37 pm by ewlabonte

I begin installing gentoo in this episode with the 2007.0 minimal install cd. This will be the first of several episodes on gentoo because installing gentoo is a bit tricky and takes more time than most distros. I install the stage 3 tarball and download and install portage, the gentoo package system. The episode ends just before I install and configure the kernel. This should be a very educational series of episodes.

I am looking forward to hearing your episdoes on installing Gentoo. I haven’t gotten quite daring enough to try it myself. I did have Sabayon installed once and it was very fast and pretty. Anyway, glad you’re back and good luck with the shows.

First time I’ve seen your corner of the web, pretty neat! I heard the first Gentoo install… it does take awhile to get right. Good choice to use vim. Nano is alot lighter but I don’t know many people that use it and it provides bad habits.

Just as a heads up, if you are using a frame buffer console ( and you can see the Gentoo background in your terminal ) “links” will work in graphical mode with mouse support by passing the “-g” parameter `links -g`.

    Cheers
